Agfa Photo Lab provides one stop shopping for busy photographers who shoot color or black and white, film or digital and need photo lab services for weddings, portraits or personal projects.

How did it all begin?
Long before the digital revolution of the early 1990’s took a foothold in every sphere of industry and changed the way we do business, photography thrived as a leisure pastime and as an occupational means to the studio and wedding photographer.

The first known photos taken and printed in Malta date back to around 1870. In time, photo studios mushroomed around the island, selling cameras and processing monocolour (B/W) films. Prior to 1960, black and white photographs were treated with aniline liquid dyes or oil colours to produce tainted hues until, finally, colour film came of age.

This was when the need arose for colour processing laboratories since, initially, films requiring processing were sent overseas. First known as Agfacolor Laboratory, and many years later as Agfa Photo Lab, our processing plant opened its doors at Floriana in 1965.

With the fast demise of film, outmoded analogue technologies rapidly gave way to digital. Where before each photo frame was processed and printed, today images are stored away, exchanged over the internet and only printed in fewer, select, numbers. That’s the downside, here’s the bright side.: ever more digital cameras are reaching our households and plenty more images and prints are being generated

Today’s revolution
Thanks also to digital, the possibilities are resounding and, no surprise therefore, Agfa Photo Lab saw it fit to upgrade its Floriana plant by investing in the most technologically-advanced equipment to cater for new applications, such as producing digital wedding books and large-format laminated printing.
